First full-time Chabad Rabbi Comes to Asheville

credit: SPECIAL TO CITIZEN-TIMES ASHEVILLE -Rabbi Shaya Susskind, together with his wife, Chana, have moved to Asheville in order to establish Chabad Lubavitch of Western North Carolina, a Jewish outreach organization.

Based in Asheville, the organization will serve the surrounding areas to include all of Western North Carolina. It will provide an array of classes and programs for the general Jewish population.
Susskind, born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., studied the Talmud, Hassidic and Jewish philosophy and the Code of Jewish Law at the Michigan Jewish Institute and advanced his studies at the Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami. He received his rabbinical ordination from the Central Chabad Rabbincial Court in Israel.
The Susskind's first program will be an opening celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Asheville Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, 36 Montford Ave., with a kosher buffet, Jewish music, new year crafts for children, raffle drawing and enrollment for future programs.
